Grand dame’s facelift: St Regis New York
The landmark St Regis New York on Fifth Avenue has just revealed extensive renovations that were completed this month. The Beaux-Arts building built in 1904 by socialite John Jacob Astor IV has morphed into modernity with redesigned rooms and public spaces.
Original features from the hotel’s “old New York” days, such as the Waterford crystal chandeliers and crown mouldings, have been joined by contemporary oversized photographs, bright fabrics and slick marble. The famous lobby reveals lost architectural elements such as its original oval windows. In the lower lobby is the luxe spa with high-end Laboratoire Remède treatments.
The fabled King Cole Bar has been spruced up and is now the King Cole Bar & Salon, headed by New York chef and restaurateur John DeLucie.
